The Electron Microscopy Facility

Core Facility Research Applications for the Institute

The EM is a centralized core facility that provides high end EM application research to various researchers within NIV. The areas include virus morphodiagnsois and characterization, analytical thin section examination, negative staining and CRyo EM applications. The facility also helps through a private-public partnership scientists and pharma hubs who need EM applications research.

Research Areas

The areas of research are focused primarily on virus morphodiagnostics and characterization. Newer areas of structure function relationship, immunoelectron microscopy and correlative functional microscopy are being carried out. The main viruses studies are Flaviviruses, Dengue and recent studies have been carried out on SARS-CoV-2

EM Quality Assurance Programs

The Facility participates in an international EQA Program conducted by the Robert Koch Institute of Germany. This enables exchange of resources, fine tuning techniques, and enhance virus diagnostics assurance capabilities

Research on vascular biology

The effect of dengue virus and viral NS1 protein on the endothelial cell biology is the main focus of the ongoing research of the Institute

Human resource development

Active studies on MS and PhD with sort term training are continuously ongoing activities of the Group
