Animal House
Large and small animal facility of the Institute is registered with the 'Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals' (CPCSEA) and operates in compliance with the guidelines laid down by the Committee. Nine strains of mice (Inbred: BALB/c, C57BL/6, DBA/2, C3H, Outbred: CD-1, Immuno-deficient: CD-1 nu/nu, BALB/c nu/nu, RAG-1 and AG129) and Golden Syrian hamsters are currently bred and maintained, in the individually ventilated caging system by the trained staff. Rabbit, G.pig, fowl and Turkey are being maintained for experimentation. The facility uses sterile food and water, as well as autoclaved cages and bedding. All physical parameters are kept within permissible ranges. Rhesus macaques under rehabilitation post experimentation are group housed at eco friendly enclosures. The group also provides research and technical support to facilitate animal experimentation in the Institute. The facility conducts training/course work for the in house as well as external staff in the area of Laboratory Animal Experimentation and Ethics.
